Serving Drinks? Coasters are Essential!
If you plan on serving drinks, coasters are essential items that play a significant role. They not only enhance the decor of your room, but you need to have them available for guests to use so that they won’t lay their glasses on the table top.
The coasters offer a flat surface that will protect the finish of the table by keeping the water that runs off the glass from accumulating on the table and either causing a stain or damaging the laminated finish.
On some types of wood, the water around the rim of the glass will leave a white stain in the wood that you can only erase by refinishing the top of the table. The same thing happens when you lay a hot drink on the table.
No matter what the type of beverage, drink coasters are available in many different shapes and sizes, in a range of material and in designs to suit virtually every occasion.
You can also customize the coasters with photos and details unique to your individual taste or printed with logos or names to suit an event. Coasters placed at each place setting for a wedding are unique wedding favors that the guests can take home and use over and over again.
There are also ways you can help the environment when you serve drinks. Coasters made from recyclable materials are very popular and are inexpensive when you make them yourself.
For example, do you have a Scrabble set from your childhood days that has tiles missing? This can be used to make unique beverage coasters by gluing the tiles together to make various sizes or coasters.
You can even create words for the coasters, so that although you have a set, each one of the coasters is different. Once you glue the tiles together, you can glue rubber or cork backing on them if you wish, but if you leave the tiles as they are they will not scratch your table and will glide across the surface quite easily.
For large events, where you will be serving a large number of drinks, coasters do not have to cost you a lot of money. You can have paper coasters that are disposable and that are really cheap to buy.
They are made from cardstock or thick paper that will absorb the liquid from the glasses quite easily. These coasters come in many different designs, such as promotional aids for businesses containing the business name or logo, or ones that are plain and look like small lace doilies.
For the home, when serving drinks, coasters made of sandstone and other natural porous material will protect the furniture as well as complement the décor. They come in a wide variety of colors and since they have cork backing, the stone will not scratch the table.
The textured finish of stone coasters make them very desirable because although the water will collect on the surface as it becomes absorbed into the stone, it will not cause the glass to stick to the coaster as does often happen with paper coasters or those made from smooth materials.
You can wipe off the coasters with a damp cloth to clean them, but you don’t need to wipe the water off them that collects from the drink glass because excess water will evaporate into the air.
